A Rare Books Advent Calendar: 1st December
Some of you will remember the extremely popular “Victorian Christmas” Advent calendar, posted on these pages in December 2012, which drew exclusively on nineteenth-century material held in the Tower. We have decided to put together another such blog for December 2013, casting a wider net to take in a variety of material held (mainly) by the Rare Books Department.
Given the nature of the subject, nineteenth-century illustrated publications will still feature heavily, but will be supplemented by images with a Christmas feel – sacred and secular – from early printed books, decorated bindings and Private Press books. This will, we hope, give an idea of the depth of the Library’s printed holdings. We hope you enjoy what’s to come!
